FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Congressman Dwight Evans (D-Pa.-3rd) held a news conference Wednesday to highlight $1 million in new federal funding he recently secured for the Share Food Program, the largest independent food bank in Pennsylvania, which distributes nourishing food to hundreds of partner pantries in southeastern Pennsylvania.

“I was proud to secure this funding for the Share Food Program in the recent federal appropriations bill because I know about the vital work that they do, and they submitted a strong application. Food is one of people’s most basic needs, and Share Food works tirelessly to fight hunger in the Philadelphia region,” Evans said.

George Matysik, Executive Director of the Share Food Program, said, “The significance and impact of this funding cannot be overstated. To keep doing what we do, and better, major updates for our headquarters is critical. This is not just a much-needed gain for Share, but one for the hundreds of thousands of people we need to feed.”

Evans was also joined by Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), a native of the Philadelphia area and fellow member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

“I’m glad to join Rep. Evans in my home state of Pennsylvania as he announces $1 million in federal funding for the Share Food Program, a food bank in the area that provides critical services to families in need,” Khanna said. “It’s an honor to be with Share Food Program’s Executive Director George Matysik and board member Gregory Allen and I thank them for their hard work and dedication.”

Evans represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia. During Evans’ first five years in Congress, his office has helped to return to or save more than $25 million for Philadelphians from federal agencies such as the IRS, Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs.
