FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Share Food Program, the largest-serving hunger relief organization and food bank in the Philadelphia region, and DoorDash today celebrated the mark of 5,000 food boxes delivered to neighbors experiencing food insecurity, as a part of a partnership with DoorDash’s Project DASH

Since late 2021, Share Food Program has partnered with Project DASH to power the delivery of food boxes in a way that emphasizes convenience and dignity to hundreds of senior citizens in and around Philadelphia each month. Project DASH is DoorDash’s initiative to empower food banks, food pantries and social impact organizations to leverage DoorDash local delivery to carry out their mission.

“Once again, Share Food Program has stepped up, leading the way, getting food to those most in need, helping folks understand how they can utilize food to empower themselves and making sure that they’re attracting great partners like DoorDash to their mission,” said State Senator Vincent Hughes. “I am a 1,000% supporter of Share; whatever we can do to help them carry out their mission, they’ve got me and my office and my team behind them.”

“It’s important to keep supporting Share Food Program and partnerships like this, and to do all we can, together, to take care of each other and feed families in need in our communities,” said State Rep. Danilo Burgos. “I encourage everyone to volunteer, get involved, and to fight hunger.”

“We are grateful to be able to collaborate with DoorDash in the ongoing fight for nutrition,” said George Matysik, executive director of Share Food Program. “Not everyone who needs food can leave their home to get it. That’s why partnerships like this, as well as the support of our Share volunteers, are crucial in ensuring we can deliver food directly to seniors in need throughout the community. We’re working hard to eliminate any and all barriers between our neighbors and nourishment, and this is one of the many ways that can help.”

“DoorDash is honored to celebrate 5,000 deliveries to senior citizens in and around Philadelphia in partnership with the Share Food Program,” said Darrell Davis, Public Engagement Manager, DoorDash. “Local delivery has been critical in supporting food banks and food pantries provision of food and other essentials while emphasizing convenience and dignity. We’re excited to continue growing this work in a sustainable way for our food bank and food pantry partners across the country to continue to meet the ongoing need.”

With the help of committed volunteer drivers, and more recently, DoorDash, Share Food Program’s home deliveries are implemented through its Senior Food Box Program (SFBP). In January and February alone, more than 1,600 deliveries have landed at local seniors’ doorsteps through the partnership.

Project DASH has powered over 1.6 million deliveries of an estimated more than 31 million meals across the U.S. and Canada.

Share Food Program has been providing free boxes of food to qualifying seniors; eligible recipients are entitled to one 30-lb. box of nutritious, shelf-stable products each month, including Fruits, Juices, Vegetables, Cheese, Milk, Meat, Poultry, Fish, Plant-based Protein, Cereals, Pasta & Rice.

Seniors served by Share Food Program have the option of picking food up from a convenient site near them or having it delivered to their home. The Share Food Program serves thousands of seniors each month.
