Nice Roots Farm continues to make a meaningful impact in our community. Last year, we harvested more than 6,000 pounds of fresh produce, all of which was donated to local community fridges, helping increase access to healthy, nutritious food for our neighbors. 

This growing season is already off to a fantastic start. Our spring harvest included an abundance of fresh beets, lettuce, collard greens, garlic, and other seasonal vegetables. As summer unfolds, we’re harvesting squash, cucumbers, juneberries, tomatoes, and eggplant, with melons and many more crops still to come. 

The farm is more than a place where food is grown—it’s a place where people grow, too. Throughout the summer, we welcome youth groups and summer camp participants each Tuesday to learn where food comes from, explore sustainable farming practices, and enjoy hands-on experiences in the field. 

We’re also proud to offer our paid Youth Land Stewardship Program, where local high school students earn $18 per hour while working approximately 15 hours each week. Beyond developing practical farming skills, participants learn about the history of agriculture in the United States, environmental stewardship, and the importance of serving their community. 

Our on-site outdoor kitchen brings the harvest to life through cooking demonstrations that teach families how to prepare simple, healthy meals using fresh, locally grown ingredients. This summer, we’ll host our popular Summer Chef Series, bringing community members together to learn new recipes and celebrate seasonal produce. Looking to later in the summer, we’ll welcome families for our annual Back-to-School Celebration on August 19, featuring free backpacks, fresh food, a cooking demonstration, and a catered meal as we help students and families prepare for a successful school year. Save the date, and stay tuned for more details.
