The Campaign for Food Justice

Share Food Program is a leading force in the fight against hunger across the Greater Philadelphia region. Based in the highest-poverty big city, Share has become one of the largest, most impactful hunger relief organizations in the country.
Over the course of the pandemic, we’ve driven a nearly five-fold increase in our staff, our fleet of vehicles, and our cold storage capacity. Yet with all of this growth, our built environment
has lagged behind.

Share focuses on meeting basic human needs and on
fighting poverty, and most importantly, they always treat everyone
with respect. They are a real, hands-on, grassroots organization committed to people, their mission, and what makes
them authentic—the work.

Our Vision & Commitment

Our Need & Plan

At Share, knowing how absolutely essential our work is drives us to do more. We want to meet unmet needs across our region and multiply our impact, and we see vast opportunities to do so by expanding our capacity, reach, increasing quality, promoting dignity, and pursuing innovation.

Although we have invested several million dollars in upgrades in recent years, the building requires a full-scale renovation to support our operations.

Project components include:

We hope you will join us in building a healthier, hunger-free future
in our community by financially investing in our $35M capital
campaign for Share Food Program. We know firsthand how important community and fundraising are to Share’s ability to meet the current and growing need of our region’s vulnerable families. Our most impactful work is only possible because of supporters and advocates who step forward to give their time, talent, and treasure. Share Food Program works tirelessly to ensure that everyone in our community has access to
nourishing food—and we believe if anyone can champion food justice for all in this region, it is Share.

We don’t enter into a Campaign of this magnitude lightly, and without a clear understanding of what it is we seek to address. Hunger is more than a missing meal; and hunger is not an isolated issue–it exists within a damaging cycle for humankind, often triggered by poverty, crisis, and inaccessibility, that then leads to
chronic, negative effects on health, education, social development, and overall wellbeing that can span generations. We believe we must approach this differently.

Food insecurity around the Greater Philadelphia region, and all over the world must be, and can be, tackled—actively, thoughtfully, and consistently. And we need helpers to do that.

Helpers like the people at Share Food Program, and all those who know the importance of supporting their everyday efforts. Big problems call for big measures. The ultimate purpose of this Campaign is to fund Share’s biggest measures yet—expanding infrastructure, capacity, quality, reach, staff, possibility, and access for hundreds of thousands of people in need, starting right here at home.

We don’t see this as just a Campaign for an organization, but a campaign for the people and the communities it serves. Removing the financial barriers of an organization like Share means removing barriers between food and the people who
need it most.

If we truly come together behind Share’s mission, there’s no telling how much we can accomplish, and how many more children, seniors, and family members we can help now.

Hunger doesn’t wait—it doesn’t wait for pandemics to end, it doesn’t wait for better luck, it doesn’t wait for kids to grow up. Hunger doesn’t wait for supply chain issues, layoffs, inflation, poverty, nor humanitarian and environmental disaster. Hunger doesn’t wait, so we can’t either.

Our Mission

In the midst of economic downturns and disrupted supply chains, countless others were suddenly experiencing food insecurity for the first time in their lives. Nevertheless, the crisis showed us the strength of our community as people sprung into action, including the 2,000 new donors and funding organizations who stepped forward to support Share’s emergency response. Now we are asking those donors—and many others—to join in sustaining our organization’s growth and our continued efforts to provide live-saving nourishment to our communities.
